Accessible Cape Sounion Temple of Poseidon

The Temple of Poseidon, located at Cape Sounion in Greece, is one of the most iconic ancient ruins in the country. Built around 440 BCE, the temple is dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea, and stands majestically overlooking the Aegean Sea from a high cliff. The temple originally had 34 Doric columns, of which 15 remain today, providing a striking silhouette against the backdrop of the sea and sky. The site offers stunning panoramic views, especially at sunset, making it a popular destination for visitors. The Temple of Poseidon is also known for its historical significance, as it was a vital religious and cultural site for sailors and the people of ancient Athens.
