What you will do...

Evia is the ideal destination for one-day excursions or weekends as an escape from the everyday life of Athens. Only 80 km away from Athens, the city of the sacred fountain of Arethousa is the main gate to the island of Evia. Thanks to its strategic geographic position, the city remains a crossroad of cultures and ideas over the centuries, an apple of discord for many foreign conquerors.

Today, the cosmopolitan city of Chalkida, is the administrative and commercial centre of the island. Chalkida is particularly famous for the tidal phenomenon that takes place in Evripos, i.e. the swift change of water direction every six hours, created by the Moon’s pull. During each change of direction, the water stops moving for about eight minutes. An ideal place to watch this unique phenomenon is the sliding Negroponte Bridge. Enjoy the charming pedestrian street lined with elegant cafes and restaurants buzzing with life day and night!

Evia is the largest island of Greece after Crete. It is characterised by its complex topography, with hills and mountains alternating with low fields and plains. It offers a great base for a variety of wines that can be enjoyed on the island.

What you will visit...

Watch the tidal phenomenon:

Exploring the coastal regions of Greece, you may have the opportunity to witness the fascinating tidal phenomenon. Tides are the rising and falling of sea levels caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. Greece's coastal areas, including islands like Evia, are known for their varying tidal patterns, creating a captivating natural spectacle. Watching the ebb and flow of the tides can be a mesmerizing experience, offering a chance to connect with the rhythmic cycles of nature and appreciate the immense power of the ocean.

Visit the best winery of Evia:

Evia, the second-largest Greek island, is renowned for its winemaking traditions and picturesque vineyards. Exploring Evia's wine region, you can visit one of the top wineries, known for producing exceptional wines. Embarking on a winery tour, you'll have the opportunity to witness the winemaking process, stroll through vineyards, and learn about the unique characteristics of the local grape varieties. Tasting the wines, you'll savor the flavors and aromas that reflect the island's terroir, appreciating the craftsmanship and dedication of the winemakers.

Greek food at one of the typical beach tavernas:

Greece is renowned for its delicious cuisine, and one of the best ways to experience it is by dining at a typical beach taverna. These tavernas, often located along the coast or on scenic beachfronts, offer a laid-back and authentic dining experience. Here, you can indulge in a wide array of traditional Greek dishes, such as fresh seafood, grilled meats, vibrant salads, and mouthwatering mezes (appetizers). Accompanied by local wines or refreshing ouzo, dining at a beach taverna allows you to savor the true flavors of Greece while enjoying the relaxed ambiance and beautiful seaside views.

Art history:

Exploring Greece's rich cultural heritage, having a knowledgeable guide can enhance your experience. A passionate guide who loves art history will bring the country's remarkable artworks and historical sites to life. They will share insightful stories, explain the symbolism behind the art, and provide historical context that deepens your understanding and appreciation of Greece's artistic legacy. Their enthusiasm and expertise will add a layer of depth to your explorations, allowing you to see the art and history of Greece through a new perspective and gain a greater connection to its cultural heritage.
