Accessible Ancient Epidaurus

Ancient Epidaurus, located in the northeastern Peloponnese of Greece, was a renowned center for healing and the arts in antiquity. It was home to the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the god of medicine, where people from across the ancient world came seeking cures for their ailments. The site includes an impressive collection of ruins, but its most iconic feature is the **Ancient Theater of Epidaurus**, celebrated for its extraordinary acoustics and harmonious design. Built in the 4th century BCE, the theater is still used today for performances during the annual Epidaurus Festival. Surrounding the sanctuary are other notable structures, such as the Tholos, the Abaton (a dormitory for patients), and ancient baths. Some sections of the Sanctuary of Asclepius may be difficult to navigate due to uneven terrain and steps. The site offers rest areas and shaded spots, which can be helpful for visitors with mobility concerns. The on-site Archaeological Museum is more accessible, with flat surfaces and facilities for those with disabilities.
